Baby Headbands

Filed under: knitting — Theca at 9:27 pm on Sunday, January 22, 2012

Finished the Roses Are Red headband, baby sized.  Here is Lucy demonstrating.  It’s very stretchy.  For this one I used all Spud sock yarn.

And the two together, before getting mailed:

Next I made experimentally the first of several large wool coasters for putting under candles or plants.  I used the felted bucket bag pattern for the base and just stopped when the circle shaped bottom was completed then felted the heck out of it.  Unfortunately it ended up with rippled edges so I’ll have to stop next time before completing the circle, and see if that makes it flatter once felted.  It’s kind of cute like this though:

I used some 40% off yarn I picked up for this purpose a year or two ago.  Cascade Lana D’Oro.  I think I repeated the pattern 20 times total.

Babies, Babies!

Seems like I am always finding new babies to make things for.

First I made a newborn hat with Knitcol trends by Adriafil yarns.  It’s a self striping wool yarn and I was so impressed I bought a second ball!  For pattern I mainly used  Child’s Self-striping hat, free on Ravelry.  I made it smaller since this is for newborn.  I think I used about 56 stitches per row?  I have my doll Lucy modeling it, and my niece Emery also.

I also made newborn to 3 months size baby booties.  This is gorgeous yarn by Alchemy called Juniper Bali Jungle, variegated greens. Yummy!  I used a great new pattern that can be used with varying sizes of yarn.  It’s called Churchmouse Wee Ones Stay-on Baby Booties. This is being modeled by Lucy again.  A little big.

I made yet another pair of Ruth’s Perfect Baby Booties with Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino.  I never get tired of this pattern.

And another Sprout hat, using my last ball of Jelli Beenz by Plymouth Yarns.  Sad.  I got that yarn very early on when I returned to knitting six years ago.

Finally, I made a child sized headband called Violets are Blue.  I used some old Baby Ull yarn in lavender and yellow, and a new rich balls of deep purple sock yarn and green by Spud. I am loving Spud!!  I’ll be making a Roses are Red version soon.

I found a doll to model.  It’s very big on her.

This is my mom wearing the heelhead scarf I made in 2009.

My dad wearing his new scarf.  It is made with Rowan Lima, which is a yummy mix of alpaca, wool, and a bit of nylon.  The pattern is called the Sean Scarf and it is in Rowan the lima collection.

A relative wearing the 1 year sized Tasia’s Cardigan I made in 2009.  The yarn is  Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted Multi.

Christmas 2011

Back from the holidays… got a lot of knitting done this fall, after all.

I made about 22 Christmas tree ornaments.  I didn’t get good pictures, but they are all felted with worsted or sport weight wool bought at Sarah Janes’s.  Mainly mittens, bells, and stockings:

I also made four scarves using the Drunken Path pattern.   I used four different colors of Ty-Dye Socks by Knit One Crochet Two, paired with a Baby Kid Extra in matching color.

They really came out great.  I might add a closeup and maybe have someone model one of them.  Their new owners seem very happy.

In September I made another Tulip pattern.  I bought the yarn online, premeasured yarn hanks.  I was short of yellow, but had some old that worked ok.  It came out very well!

And here is the baby wearing it:
