Stumbling Over Tulip

Filed under: knitting — Theca at 11:57 pm on Thursday, July 30, 2009

I’m making a second Tulip pattern baby sweater.  I remember struggling with the border the first time, and I had even more trouble understanding the pattern this time.  I won’t know if I got it right until I block it at the end, but I remember how amazed I was that the first Tulip worked, so I’m not too worried.

All I have left to do is the sleeves.  The colors aren’t far off.  The pink color isn’t nearly this garish.  The orange color is very peachy with hints of pink and yellow and makes me hungry for peaches.  The pink has hints of peach. I wasn’t sure at first but I think the stripes will be ok together.

I finished another pair of Hugs Slippers.  I used Amity Ella Rae heathered pink with charcoal for the bottoms.  Colors look pretty good together and very striking.   I put more rug backing on the bottom.  The stuff works great.

Wool Soaker #8

Filed under: knitting — Theca at 1:27 am on Friday, July 24, 2009

Yep, another soaker.  This is identical to the one I did earlier this month.  Same Little Turtle Knits pattern, same size large.  I have no idea what kind of yarn I used.  I think it’s probably a green heather Cascade 220 with hints of yellow and blue in it that I bought a couple years ago for a future soaker.  I had only a couple of yards left over.  I think it’s still a pretty big large.  I put the pen across the soaker just like last time so I can compare size a bit.

I keep telling Bailey that cats don’t wear soakers, but he just never believes me.img_0579.JPG

That reminds me of my favorite quote from work today.  “Honey, don’t put your underwear in the biohazard bin.”

Well, it was pretty funny at the time.

Hairpin Lace Baby Blanket

Filed under: knitting — Theca at 10:48 pm on Saturday, July 18, 2009

It’s finished… a near perfect copy of my very own baby blanket, originally crocheted more than 38 years ago.  This one was made this summer, in exactly one month.  I used really old yarn.  The white yarn is cuddlesoft and the pink and blue yarns are brunswick bambini.  It was a boring thing to make, but I enjoyed it.  The fringe took hours to do but it looks better with the fringe, I think.

Here is a look at it before two rows of single crochet plus fringe got added to the long sides.  All the strips are braided together the same way.

Here is a shot of the side at the bottom of the braid:

And a picture of the other end.  These ends get sewn together just a bit to keep them in the right place, after this picture was taken.  The two rows of crocheting also help with keeping the strips braided.

I’ll be adding more plates soon.

Bailey is happy the blanket is done.

How to Get Rid of Telemarketers

Ask lots of questions they don’t know the answer to.  Then they can’t wait to get off the phone.

Here’s my baby blanket.  Slow going, but over half done.

Soaker #7

This one is a very large size large.  I used free yarn, more Knit Picks Chambray.  Seems awfully big.

I made another nice scarf with Colinette Isis yarn.  This took one ball.  I just did 16 stitches of garter stitch until I ran out of yarn.  It really looks wider till the first time washed, then gets much narrower.  I learned that the hard way.  It really sheds, too.  I have a lot of vacuuming to do now.  I do love the way the scarves turn out and this one has such an interesting pattern!
